The McNeese Cowboys compete in the Southland Conference, and eleven of their twelve games in 2026 stream on ESPN+ — the entire nine-game league slate plus the non-conference home dates against Texas Wesleyan and Tarleton State. Which McNeese Cowboys games are worth watching in 2026?
The trip to Baton Rouge on October 3 is the marquee date and the only one with a national television window. Tiger Stadium holds more than 100,000, and it is the sort of environment few FCS programs get to walk into — a 7:45 PM ET kickoff on SEC Network makes it a proper night in Death Valley. But the game that shapes the Southland race arrives first. Defending conference champion Stephen F. Austin visits Lake Charles on August 29 for the Hall of Fame Game, meaning McNeese opens the year against the team it needs to catch. Two weeks later Tarleton State comes to Navarre Stadium as the reigning UAC champion and an FCS quarterfinalist, giving the Cowboys three playoff-caliber opponents inside the season's first six weeks.
The back half is heavy on Louisiana. Homecoming falls on Halloween against Nicholls, and the Cowboys then close with a November road trip to Southeastern Louisiana — another 2025 playoff team — before finishing at home against Lamar on November 21 in a border series that has been played more than fifty times. September 19 also brings a first: McNeese has never traveled to Edinburg, so the visit to UTRGV opens a brand-new road venue for a program that has been in the Southland since 1972.
