Which Lamar Cardinals games are worth watching in 2026?
Lamar gets tested immediately. Abilene Christian opens the season in Beaumont on August 29 as a UAC co-champion and FCS playoff team, then the Cardinals head to Lafayette to face Sun Belt member Louisiana — the only FBS opponent on the schedule and the largest crowd they will see. A week after that comes the longest trip on any Southland calendar, all the way to Moscow for a date with Idaho inside the Kibbie Dome. Three weeks, three opponents that reached the postseason or play at a higher level, and only then a bye.
The season ends where it always does emotionally: the Battle of the Border at McNeese on November 21, one of the oldest and most bitter rivalries in the Southland, this year in Lake Charles. Before that, the home stretch delivers back-to-back dates that could decide the league table — Stephen F. Austin, the defending Southland champion, visits on November 7, and East Texas A&M follows on Senior Day. The Halloween trip to Edinburg is worth flagging too: UTRGV went 9-3 in its inaugural season and was unbeaten at home, and the 8:00 PM ET kickoff is the latest start on Lamar's calendar.
