Which Jackson State Tigers games are worth watching in 2026?
The season opens with one of the oldest matchups in Black college football. Jackson State and Tennessee State have met 47 times since 1975, and the John Merritt Classic returns after a four-year gap — the last meeting came in 2022, a 16-3 Tigers win. It doubles as a Week Zero showcase in Nashville, with the Sonic Boom of the South making the trip. From there the Tigers settle into three straight at Thee Vet, including the HOPE Labor Day Classic against Edward Waters, a first-ever meeting between the schools, and the W.C. Gorden Classic against Tuskegee.
Conference play opens September 26 against Southern in a series that sits dead even at 36 wins apiece, though Jackson State has taken the last seven. Homecoming on October 17 brings Florida A&M to Jackson in what is probably the biggest home date of the year and one of four games on the ESPN networks.
