Which Incarnate Word Cardinals games are worth watching in 2026?
September 26 in San Marcos is the game with the best story attached. UIW travels up I-35 to face Texas State and GJ Kinne, the former Cardinals head coach who built the foundation of the program's most successful era before leaving for the FBS. It is also the only Incarnate Word game on cable television all season, with USA Network carrying it. Two weeks earlier the Cardinals head to the Walkup Skydome in Flagstaff for a rematch with Northern Arizona, who beat UIW 31-23 in the same building last September — an unusual indoor, high-altitude environment that has troubled visiting teams for years.
Conference play front-loads the difficulty on the road. UIW visits defending Southland champion Stephen F. Austin on October 3, then Lamar a week later, before finally getting a run of home games. The most consequential of those is October 24 against McNeese, and Halloween brings Northwestern State to Benson Stadium for a Black Out night. The regular season effectively ends at home on November 14, when Nicholls arrives for a combined Homecoming and Senior Day — a fixture that has produced some of the biggest crowds in stadium history — before a closing trip to Commerce.
